About DayRate
DayRate helps freelancers and contractors answer one hard question: what should I actually charge?
Too many freelancers set their rate by guessing, copying a competitor, or anchoring to an old salary — and end up underpricing themselves into long hours and thin margins. DayRate replaces the guesswork with a transparent calculation and sourced market benchmarks, so you can set a rate you understand and defend.
The tool is built around two principles. First, show the working: every figure comes from inputs you can see and change. Second, never push you to undercharge: we always show your break-even and warn you when a rate slips below what it costs you to deliver.
How it stays free
DayRate is free and supported by advertising. There is no sign-up, no paywall and no “premium” rate report. The calculator runs entirely in your browser — we don’t store the numbers you enter.
Who builds it
DayRate is an independent project, maintained by a working developer who has freelanced and hired freelancers. Benchmarks are refreshed against their public sources, and we welcome corrections — see the contact page.
